| LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. — The Tahoe Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus, under the artistic leadership of Maestro James Rawie, presents “Nightz at Tahoe Opera,” a spectacular summer celebration featuring some of opera’s most beloved arias, duets, and choruses by Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, Bizet, Rossini, and Massenet. The performances mark Maestro Rawie’s 21st anniversary season conducting in the Tahoe region and bring together an exceptional ensemble of guest vocalists, orchestra musicians, and chorus members for an unforgettable evening of operatic masterpieces. Maestro Rawie is now in his second season as Artistic Director and Conductor of the Tahoe Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus. This special program features highlights from some of the world’s most cherished operas, including The Magic Flute, Turandot, The Barber of Seville, Rigoletto, Nabucco, La Traviata, and Thaïs. Selections from Mozart’s The Magic Flute will be performed in English translation. Returning to Tahoe following his acclaimed April performance of Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto, Tahoe Philharmonic Concertmaster Kevin Matheson will lead the orchestra for the second consecutive year and will also perform Massenet’s exquisite “Meditation” from Thaïs. Featured guest artists include: Tenor Michael Nim of Seattle, performing “Dies Bildnis” from The Magic Flute and the iconic “Nessun dorma” from Puccini’s Turandot. Baritone Julio Ferrari of San Francisco, presenting Rossini’s comic showpiece “Largo al factotum” from The Barber of Seville. Soprano Jackie Lengfelder, joins Ferrari in the charming Papageno/Papagena duet from Magic Flute Soprano Mari Stoner, performing Mozart’s “Ach, ich fühl’s” from The Magic Flute and Verdi’s “Caro nome” from Rigoletto. Coloratura soprano Joy Strotz, performing the dazzling Queen of the Night aria, “Der Hölle Rache,” from The Magic Flute. The Tahoe Philharmonic Chorus and soloists will present Verdi’s deeply moving “Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves” (“Va, pensiero”) from Nabucco. The full company will conclude the program with one of opera’s most joyous finales: Verdi’s celebrated drinking song, “Libiamo ne’ lieti calici,” from La Traviata.
