Suicide Prevention Network – For the Love of a “Smudge” – Healing Through the Arts | Douglas County Library

October 29 @ 1:00 pm 3:00 pm

How might an artist be able to connect with so many fabulous agencies helping those who need help? Years ago, Carson City Artist/Eduator/Inventor Carol Foldvary-Anderson became aware of the Nevada Arts Council and found her way helping others through the Arts. The Nevada Arts Council is a funding agency, located in Reno working with artists in all disiplines of the arts, helping to fund projects in the community.

Foldvary-Anderson recently has been working in a a collaborative effort with the Suicide Prevention Network, SPN’s mission is to provide awareness, suicide prevention and support services through education, advocacy and intervention to residents of the rural communities.  Their service area includes not only Douglas County, but Carson City, and Alpine County in California.

With a generous grant Lifetime Arts, the Nevada Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Douglas County Public Library, Partnership Douglas County, SAMHSA and/or the Substance Abuse Treatment Agency of Nevada (SAPTA) Foldvary-Anderson has been able to assist in a seven-part series of classes where participants of all skill levels came together to explore, experiment, and play with the “Smudge” technique she invented working with oil pastels as the medium.

The culmination of the series is the Artist Exhibit and Reception to be held Wednesday, October 29th, from 1pm-3pm at the Douglas County Library. Meet the artists and enjoy their creations. Light refreshments will be served.
