Red, White & You: Carson City Essay Contest – Essays Due July 15th, Social August 8th
May 15 All day

Looking for a way to keep the kids (or grandkids) busy this summer that doesn’t involve a screen? We have an answer.
The Carson City Historical Society, in celebration of America’s big 250th birthday and in conjunction with America250, is inviting students in grades 4–12 to enter the “What America Means to Carson City” Essay Contest.
And don’t worry—this is the kind of “homework” that actually comes with bragging rights… and cash prizes.
We’re encouraging students to share their thoughts, stories, and perspectives on what America means to them and how that connects to life here in Carson City. It can be heartfelt, thoughtful, creative—or all three. Bonus points if it gets the whole family involved. (Yes, this is your official excuse to gather the grandkids and tell a few stories.)
Entries are due July 15, 2026. Winners will be announced at our Ice Cream Social on August 8 from 2:00–4:00 p.m. at the Foreman-Roberts House Museum—because nothing says “celebration” like ice cream and a little local pride.
Cash prizes will be awarded in each age group, so there’s even more incentive to put pen to paper.
