Night Off the Streets plans Hands Across Carson Fundraiser for July 19th at the Governor’s Mansion
July 19, 2025 @ 4:30 pm – 8:00 pm
Night Off the Streets (NOTS) invites the community to join its Hands Across Carson: Getting Groovy Fundraiser on Saturday, July 19, at the Governor’s Mansion. Doors open at 4:30 pm.
Barbequed meats and accompaniments will be provided by CoCos “N” Moes of Minden. Classic Vinyl will spin groovy music to entertain during the evening.
Proceeds from the event, including raffle prizes and auctions, will help fund the cost of operating the warming center during the Winter months and other types of year-round support of the unhoused in Carson City. The money raised will also add to funds designated for obtaining a permanent warming center. Now, the warming center is hosted by one Carson City church each month during the coldest months, November through March.
“Night Off the Streets would not exist without the community’s support,” says NOTS Manager Jodi Miller. More than 100 people volunteer during the Winter season at the shelter. People also donate food and clothing as well as their money.
In the past year, the number of people seeking shelter during October through March has increased as the unhoused population in Carson City has increased. The age demographics also show that more seniors, unable to afford rental housing, are in need of temporary shelter and protection from the freezing temperatures.
The NOTS warming center was founded eight years ago after four homeless people died of hypothermia while sleeping outdoors. Since opening the center, no one has died from exposure to the cold in Carson City.
Tickets for the evening are $95.00 per person or $850.00 for a table of 10. Tickets can be purchased by calling 775-600-2215 or online at https://www.zeffy.com/ticketing/hands-across-carson-getting-groovy.
The event is made possible by sponsors CoCos “N” Moes, Bonanza Septic and Jetting Solutions, Kimmie Candy, Carson Tahoe Health, Sun King Window Tinting, Smith Automotive, Allison MacKenzie, Ltd. Attorneys & Counselors at Law, United Federal Credit Union, and Les Schwab Tire Center.
