Inaugural Motor Car Rally

Three-day Labor Day weekend celebration will feature historic motor car rides, visiting motor cars from museums across the West, live music, and family activities.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (Aug. 20, 2026) — The Nevada State Railroad Museum, Carson City will host its inaugural Motor Car Rally from Saturday, Sept. 5 through Monday, Sept. 7, 2026, bringing together a unique collection of historic and replica motor cars from across the West to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the museum’s Tucson, Cornelia & Gila Bend No. 401 Edwards Car.

The three-day Labor Day weekend celebration will run from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.daily and will feature historic motor car rides, behind-the-scenes tours, food trucks, live music, and more. The event offers visitors a rare opportunity to see and ride a variety of historic motor cars gathered together in one location.

The rally will bring together a unique collection of historic and replica motor cars from across the West, including Rio Grande Southern Galloping Goose No. 7 from the Colorado Railroad Museum, Death Valley Railroad Brill Motor Car No. 5 from Laws Railroad Museum & Historic Site, Motor Car Sarah Kidder from the Nevada County Narrow Gauge Museum, and replicas of Virginia & Truckee Motor Car No. 24 and Nevada Central Motor Car 107-C. Select motor cars will be available for rides throughout the event, giving visitors the opportunity to experience these historic vehicles firsthand. 

In addition to motor car rides, the event will feature behind-the-scenes Annex tours, food trucks, live music in the park, and other family-friendly activities throughout the weekend.

Admission is $25 for adults, $15 for children ages 4 to 17, and free for children ages 3 and younger. One wristband provides access to all event activities for the day. Wristbands can be purchased online or in person. The museum will not sell individual rides or standard admission tickets during the event, and member discounts do not apply.

The Nevada State Railroad Museum, Carson City, located at 2180 South Carson St. in Carson City, is open Thursday through Monday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, and free for museum members and children 17 and under. The museum preserves and interprets Nevada’s railroad history through its collection of historic locomotives, rolling stock, artifacts, photographs, and memorabilia. In addition to exhibits, select equipment is restored and operated throughout the year, offering rides on historic locomotives and motor cars during select weekends, holidays, and special events.
