Historic Piper’s Opera House celebrates the holidays with annual Christmas play “Miracle on C Street”

A re-imagined Christmas classic with various show dates throughout December

Virginia City, Nev. – This holiday season, historic Piper’s Opera House invites the community to its annual Christmas Play, “Miracle on C Street.” This year’s production blends the classic “Miracle on 34th Street” with a distinctive Virginia City twist, bringing C Street and the town’s rich history to life on stage. With multiple performances scheduled throughout December, the show is a seasonal celebration for families, friends and visitors. For more information and to purchase tickets for the event, head here

“Piper’s Opera House is the perfect setting for this beloved Christmas classic,” said Todd Tuttle, tourism director. “Each year, our Christmas play is a chance to share in the festivity of the season while adding some Virginia City magic. This production is made possible by local talent who showcase the charm of C Street and the magic of the holidays.”

The play follows an old man known as Kris Kringle, who pretends to be Santa during the city’s ‘C Street Parade of Lights’ after the regular Santa becomes ill. Kringles’s warmth, kindness and charm win over paradegoers and soon he’s appearing regularly at the local store on C Street. When he insists he is the “real” Santa, the town gets suspicious and puts him on trial. The play explores themes of faith, belief, community and the true spirit of Christmas. Guests are encouraged to get tickets early.

Piper’s Opera House Christmas play showings of “Miracle on C Street” will take place on the following dates:

●       Saturday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m.

●       Sunday, Dec. 14  and Sunday, Dec. 21 at 2 p.m.

●       Friday, Dec. 19 at 7 p.m.

About Virginia City

Established in the mid-1800s with the discovery of silver, Virginia City became a mining “boomtown” influencing prosperity and culture. While the Great Fire of 1875 destroyed much of the original town, it was rebuilt to even greater opulence which can be experienced today and sparked preservation throughout the decades. Just 30 minutes outside of Reno, its unique, rich and colorful streets attract tourists from across the globe to experience the hearts of gold, veins of silver and lodes of fun in every historic building, saloon, museum and memorable event.
