Lyon County – Healthy Communities June 12th Meeting Focuses on Nation’s Finest and Foster Care

Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties’ June 12, 2025 public meeting includes presentations on foster care in our region, and the services and programs of Nation’s Finest.
The Thursday meeting begins at 9 am at the Silver Springs Community Center and includes breakfast and coffee. The Community Center is located on the left side of the Senior Center building at 2945 Fort Churchill Street, Silver Springs, NV 89429. Attendees are asked to park on the side of the building or on the street to preserve the parking in front of the building for seniors.
Shelby Riley, Nevada’s Rural Foster Care Recruiter with the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services, will speak about opportunities to become a foster parent in our region.
Jorge Rojas, SSVF Case Manager, will give an overview of Nation’s Finest, which serves veterans throughout Northern Nevada with programs such as the VA’s Supportive Services For Veteran Families (SSVF) Program.
HCC Meets Every Other Month: The nonprofit Healthy Communities Coalition (HCC) meets every other month at the Silver Springs Community Center at 9am. The Thursday, August 14 meeting includes guest speakers on Access to Healthcare and Nevada Care Connection and its programs to improve access to services and supports such as Medicare.
Healthy Communities Coalition is comprised of local, state, federal and tribal group partners, community volunteers, and a board of directors and staff all working together on a common mission to strengthen communities in the Lyon and Storey regions by increasing access to 1) health care and prevention of alcohol, tobacco and other drug use; 2) food security, nutrition and gardening education and 3) sustainable, community-based opportunities that serve the common good and strengthen local assets and self-reliance.
