Leisure Hour Club Explores the Spirit of Hope in Carson City

February 20, 2025 @ 5:30 pm 7:30 pm

Ellen Jackson, executive director of the Spirit of Hope organization, will join Leisure Hour Club members on February 20 to share information on the group’s goal to improve the lives of individuals facing varied challenges.

Since 2010, the organization has been providing affordable, sober, and supportive housing to extremely low-income individuals from all walks of life, using a “housing first” approach to combat homelessness in our community.

With a number of residences in Carson City, they offers approximately 60-80 men and women accommodations so that they can begin rebuilding their lives. The group works closely with local health and social services agencies and the Carson City court system to ensure residents are ready and able to thrive in our homes.

Spirit of Hope is committed to providing permanent housing and vital support services for residents, empowering them to take control of their futures. Ms. Jackson also will explore the life-changing effects of the organization’s work and commitment to the Carson City community.

The Leisure Hour Club, established in September of 1896, is Carson City’s oldest continuously meeting social organization. The organization is focused on its goal of promoting knowledge on important issues, science, music and literature. Its motto of “Let knowledge grow from more to more” comes from Tennyson’s poem In Memoriam.

Information on joining the organization or on the reservations for the Thursday, February 20 dinner/meeting can be obtained by calling 775.302.8820 or by email to lhcreservations@gmail.com.
