Emotional Intelligence as a Life Skill

July 11 @ 10:30 am 12:00 pm

Emotional Intelligence: The Life Skill Most of Us Were Never Taught

Most of us learned math, science, reading, and history in school.

Few of us were taught what to do when we feel overwhelmed, anxious, frustrated, hurt, or afraid.

We weren’t taught how to identify our emotions, understand why they arise, or communicate them effectively. Instead, many of us learned to suppress them, avoid them, or react to them.

The result?

Repeating the same patterns in our relationships, struggling with stress, feeling disconnected, or reacting in ways we wish we hadn’t.

This is where emotional intelligence comes in.

Emotional intelligence is the ability to recognize, understand, and respond to emotions with awareness rather than reactivity. It is a skill that affects every area of our lives, from our relationships and communication to our careers, parenting, leadership, and overall well-being.

This summer, I will be teaching Emotional Intelligence as a Life Skill through TMCC’s Educational Programs Inspiring the Community (EPIC) program.

Together, we will explore how emotions are formed, how they influence our decisions, and how they impact our relationships. Through guided exercises, practical tools, and self-reflection, participants will learn how to build greater emotional awareness, strengthen resilience, and respond thoughtfully to life’s challenges.

This class is not about becoming emotionless.

It is about learning how to work with your emotions instead of against them.

When we understand our emotions, we begin to understand our patterns. When we understand our patterns, we gain the power to change them.

Whether you are looking to improve your relationships, reduce stress, become a more effective communicator, or simply understand yourself on a deeper level, emotional intelligence provides a foundation for meaningful growth.

The truth is that emotions are not weaknesses to overcome.

They are information.

The better we become at understanding that information, the more empowered we become to create the lives we want to live.
