Dark Prison Haunted House
October 16 @ 6:30 pm – 10:30 pm
Across 17 nights this fall, guests will experience an immersive, cinematic haunt set within the real cellblocks and corridors of the decommissioned maximum-security prison, more than 150 years old, which closed to the public in 2012. Tickets are on sale at darkprison.com with timed-entry reservations for weekend dates starting Friday, September 26 through November 1.
“The team of artists from Dark Corner Creative have been working non-stop over the last few months to put together this stunning show. We’ve built out new spaces, new characters, and new props all while preserving the history of the amazing building Dark Prison takes place in.” said Holly Sphar, CEO of Dark Corner Creative, the parent company of Dark Prison.
Dark Prison is set across many iconic locations in the prison. The Yard acts as a portal and party space with new games, DJ music, a bar selling alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, and performances from local Northern Nevada artists on some special nights. Cell Block C is the first extension of the haunt. Horrifying inmates fill these real prison cells and they’re ready to get out. Unit 15 is next and holds some of Dark Prison’s newer inmates infected with the Shadow Plague which has followed our characters from the previous haunted house in Downtown Reno. Then finally Jorgan’s Institute for the Unwell houses new characters, who were fabricated by the talented artists from Dark Corner Creative and VEXA props.
Hosted in partnership with the Nevada State Prison Preservation Society (NSPPS), Dark Prison offers guests rare, after-hours access to one of Nevada’s most storied sites—reimagined as a high-intensity haunt designed for horror fans and thrill-seekers alike. “Nevada State Prison Preservation Society is thrilled to partner with Dark Corner Creative, a partnership that reiterates our commitment to expanding opportunities for visitors to experience Nevada State Prison.” said Lucia Maloney, Nevada State Prison Preservation Society General Manager.
After the success of the sold-out Halfway to Halloween event in May, Dark Corner Creative and the NSPPS decided to bring a full season of scares back to the historic prison. This time some of the fan-favorite characters from Dark Corner’s earlier attractions are joining the inmates inside Dark Prison. It’s a new experience designed to excite Dark Corner fans and entertain curious newcomers.
“The response to our spring event was incredible, and we’re excited to build on that momentum,” said Dustin Ring, CFO and CTO of Dark Corner Creative. “Working with NSPPS allows us to create something truly unique in a venue unlike any other.”
Beyond Dark Corner’s events, the Nevada State Prison has opened its doors several times since it was decommissioned in 2012. Guests from across the country have visited the prison for its historic and paranormal tours, private events, and even large movies filmed within the prison’s walls. The main difference with Dark Prison Haunted House is the opportunity to allow the public in large quantities to see Nevada State Prison in a new and unique way.
Lucia Maloney states, “Whether someone has never walked through the prison’s gates, joined us years ago on a tour, or are a lifetime member, this year’s Dark Prison Haunt is sure to be a one-of-a-kind experience that is not to be missed.”
