For the first time in 13 years, the Nevada State Prison will reopen its gates to an immersive entertainment walk through experience featuring live actors, cinematic sets, props, games, photo opportunities and more. Are you brave enough? On May 16th through May 18th, step inside one of Nevada’s most infamous and historic institutions for a limited-time haunted house experience unlike any other.
Carson City welcomes a one-of-a-kind event this spring: a haunted house experience set inside the real Nevada State Prison. Closed to the public since 2012, the site now opens for just three nights only to host Dark Prison Haunted House—an immersive attraction blending local history, theatrical storytelling, and Halloween thrills.
Built in 1862, the prison predates Nevada’s statehood and has housed generations of infamous figures. Guests will have the chance to walk its previously unopened areas: Lower industrial, the mattress factory and the insane asylum halls. The audience will explore its chambers—reimagined with lighting, sound, actors and professionally designed haunted attractions.
The experience includes:
Two haunted house attractions featuring live actors, custom-built sets and Hollywood level props.
Photo ops, games and live entertainment on the historic grounds.
A wine and beer bar, along with local food trucks for a full evening of fun.
Presented by the creators of the award winning Dark Corner Haunted House, which builds and runs the largest, scariest haunted house in Downtown Reno at the National Bowling Stadium every October since 2022.
This is not just a haunted house—it’s a rare chance to step inside a piece of Nevada history while celebrating Halfway to Halloween with friends, family and fellow thrill-seekers.
