Annual Community Roots Holiday Open House and Fundraiser December 6 – 7

December 7 @ 10:00 am 6:00 pm

Dayton, Nevada – Community Roots’ annual holiday open house takes place this year on Saturday, December 6 and Sunday, December 7 from 10am-6pm on both days. There will be festive food and hot beverages, opportunities for Christmas tree and holiday gift shopping (including both live and fresh cut trees and items created by local artisans and cottage food vendors), and an ornament-making craft table.

LOCAL ARTISANS AND COTTAGE FOOD VENDORS: The open house will include booths with local vendors and their jewelry, baked items, candles, and even treats for dogs. Additional stocking stuffers and gift possibilities will be on display inside Community Roots’ gift shop.

UNIQUE GIFTS: Community Roots’ gift shop is stocked with unique, locally made items such as ornaments in the shape of wild horses, greeting cards, handcrafted jewelry, honey, candles and soap, books by local authors, and tie-dyed baby clothes. The gift shop also carries various Fair Trade items from Nepal, Africa and Haiti, like handcrafted angels, coffee and tea, “tree-free, eco-friendly” handmade paper products, bird houses made with natural sheep’s wool, felt finger puppets and coin purses, and whimsical handbags shaped like cats and elephants.

CHRISTMAS TREES: Community Roots has a large selection of fragrant, fresh cut Christmas trees in its garden center. Choose from the Noble Fir, which has a slight bluish cast; the Douglas Fir, with its soft, lighter green needles; or the Nordmann Fir, with its traditional Christmas tree shape and slightly sweet evergreen scent.

POTTED EVERGREENS: The garden center also has potted evergreens such as Baby Blue Spruce, Colorado Spruce, Scotch Pine, Eastern White Pine, Black Hills Spruce, Mugo Pine, Globosa Spruce and Leyland Cypress.

MAPLES AND SHRUBS: Community Roots’ manager Morigan Albatraoz noted that the garden center recently received “several varieties of maple trees, such as the Red Rocket and the Sienna Glenn Maple varieties. The Sienna Glenn is an exciting option for our region because it is more tolerant of salty and high pH soils than other maple varieties.” The garden center has shrubs as well, including Green Mountain Boxwood, Dwarf Heavenly Bamboo, Snowberry, and others.

FREE DOCUMENT SHREDDING: As a special thank you to the community, there will be a free paper shredding service for the community on Saturday, December 6 from 2pm-4pm in the parking lot of Community Roots. This service is to help residents securely dispose of their sensitive documents. Participants are asked to please limit the number of legal size boxes to one or two per household.

CANNED FOOD DRIVE: Community Roots invites people to bring canned food donations to the event to help local families this holiday season.

Shopping at Community Roots helps others:
