All Aboard-Steel Rails of the Silver State

September 8 @ 1:30 pm 2:30 pm

At the Carson City Senior Center. Join local historians David & Gayle Woodruff for a fast moving journey through the high desert and mountain passes in this 55 minute history slide show exploring the colorful network of railroads that once stitched Nevada and the Eastern Sierra together—lines that hauled ore, timber, tourists, and dreams across some of the West’s most dramatic landscapes. From the proud days of the Virginia & Truckee to the lonely whistle of the Carson & Colorado, these railroads shaped boomtowns, linked remote communities, and left behind a legacy of grit, ingenuity, and larger than life characters. The program also includes a look at the famous Friendship Train and its goodwill laden course through Nevada just after World War II, bringing these stories to life with vivid images, surprising tales, and the enduring romance of steel rails meeting sagebrush. Free and no reservations required.
