A History Slide Show – “For the Benefit and Enjoyment of the People”

The concept of a “national park” is an American innovation that, in part, grew out of the conservation movement that began in the nineteenth century. With increased awareness of and sensitivity toward nature came the desire to preserve some of the most spectacular landscapes and significant historical and cultural sites for the enjoyment of future generations. Join local historians David & Gayle Woodruff in a 55-minute slide show, as they look back at how this bold idea of setting aside public lands for everyone to enjoy became a cornerstone of American democracy.
