Carson City and Northern Nevada caught the attention of 60 Minutes with a Sunday feature on the national jobs climate, qualified workers and addressing what has become known as the “skills gap” which happens when companies are hiring, but the applicants don’t have the skills to do the available jobs.
In the piece, 60 Minutes reporter Byron Pitts took a tour of Click Bond, a Carson City factory that makes aircraft parts. It is a growing industry, but despite record high unemployment in the state, Click Bond say they can’t find enough qualified employees locally to employ at $12 an hour for entry level positions.
