Each year our new president identifies a theme to represent her goals and aspirations for the upcoming year. This year President Cynthia has chosen “Better Together.” After a stressful year dealing with COVID, we are all ready to return to accomplishing our shared goals highlighting both local and global commitments. We have been fortunate to be able to meet via Zoom, However, we do prefer in-person meetings so we can discuss issues and socialize with friends. Our mission statement represents our hopes: Soroptimist is a global organization of women who volunteer their time to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to their economic and social empowerment.
Our committees promote the mission of Soroptimist. The Service Committee recognizes a Ruby Award winner to honor a woman for helping other women and girls. They also allocate funds for worthy community non-profit projects. The Foundations Committee provides scholarships and grants to female students needing access to education and training to achieve economic empowerment. Our Whole Child Committee is dedicated to advancing children’s health and social development.
Founded in 1957, the Carson City club is part of Soroptimist International of the Americas, in which almost 160,000 Soroptimists in 21 countries and territories contribute time and financial support to community-based projects that benefit women and girls. Soroptimist focuses its efforts in the areas of health, education, economic and social development, international good will and understanding and human rights/status of women. Internationally, there are clubs in more than 120 countries throughout the world. For further information, please visit our website at www.sicarsoncity.org.
