The Department of Public Safety is pleased to announce the appointment of Tom Navin to the position of Chief of the Capitol Police Division.
“Chief Navin comes to the department with a wealth of knowledge in the law enforcement field and will bring great leadership to the division,” said Director Chris Perry.
Chief Navin’s 25 years of law enforcement experience with the San Jose Police Department includes a wide range of career assignments. Navin supervised the Patrol Division, Traffic Enforcement Unit, and Administrative Officer to the Deputy Chief of the Patrol Division. He has over 15 years of experience supervising police officers in the Patrol Division, the Systems Development/Information Technology Unit, and Patrol Teams at Mineta/San Jose International Airport. He completed his career by serving as Chief Pilot for fixed-wing operations. He was responsible for the safety of flights and the training of future police pilots.
Navin has a passion for flying and is certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as a Gold Seal Certified Flight Instructor and often states that nothing beats the aerial view of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. He has a degree in Emergency Medical Care and Rescue and is currently pursuing a Law Degree from Northwestern California University School of Law.
“Chief Navin’s experience in managing a multi-million dollar patrol budget will become a beneficial resource in his new role,” said Deputy Director James Wright.
