After months of discussion and deliberation by the Board of Supervisors on how to properly dispose of the city-owned Northgate Complex, which houses several Carson City based non profits, it was determined Thursday that the city would go forward with negotiations on the property with the Hop and Mae Adams Foundation.
The minimum price was set for $385,000.
The property includes 1.133 acres of land and a 15,841 square foot office building, located at 2621 Northgate Lane.
Bids were sought from numerous non-profits, many of whom are housed within the building.
The Northgate Complex has been owned by the city since the 1980s. In 1996, the board approved the sale of the property at public auction, but the sale efforts were unsuccessful.
Since that time, the city has leased portions of the building to local nonprofits including Nevada Rural Counties RSVP, the Ron Wood Family Resource Center, Capital City Circles Initiative, as well as an agreement with the University of Nevada’s Agricultural/Extension Department.
In July 2021, the board directed staff to declare intent to sell the property to a qualified non-profit at auction after it was determined that the building would need maintenance and capital investment that the city no longer wished to provide.
It was determined that the Hop and Mae Adams Foundation was the highest bidder, and the board voted unanimously (with one abstention) to continue entering into negotiations with the foundation, which also owns Carson City’s Adams Hub.
What will happen with the nonprofits in the building wasn’t discussed. However Hop and Mae Foundation representatives have met with the tenants, including RSVP, and told them that if the sale were to go through, they would be retained as tenants.
“The is a win for the tenants that occupy this building. I just know from me, I am unbelievably grateful for the Hop and Mae Foundation who want to set it up to purchase the building,” said Molly Walt, RSVP Director.
