The Carson City Schools Foundation will host the CARSON 400, a stock car-style foot race for students in kindergarten through 12th grade, Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the Carson High School Sports Complex.

Gates open at 5 p.m. with the Classic Car Exhibition in the north parking lot.

Decorated cardboard cars for the Show and Shine competition will be on display just inside the main gate from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. The Show and Shine event will feature entries from corporate sponsors, schoolclubs and community donors.

The racing events will begin at 7 p.m., under the stadium lights, with kindergarten, first- and second-grade students competing in a 100-meter drag race. Kindergarten students may race alongside a parent. Students in third through 12th grades will compete in a 400-meter race. Teachers will represent their schools in the 4×100-meter relay Race for School Glory.

Participants will race while wearing cardboard box cars sponsored by community donors. Awards will be presented to the top three finishers in each race.

Community members are invited to attend and watch the races. No registration is required for spectators, but donations are encouraged. Students who wish to participate must register by Friday, Oct. 2, to be guaranteed an event T-shirt.

In addition to the 100M and 400M races, fourth- and fifth-graders in Carson City will also compete in the CHS Future Runners 1-mile cross-country race at 6:00 and 6:30 p.m.

For several weeks leading up to Oct. 7, the Carson High School Boys and Girls Cross-Country Teams have hosted running clinics for students at each of the six elementary schools in Carson City.

The athletes took time to work one-on-one with the younger runners and help encourage physical fitness in the upcoming generation. The running clinics will culminate at the Carson City Schools Foundation CARSON 400 event.
