October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, and Nevada Vocational Rehabilitation (VR Nevada) is reminding Nevadans that a wide range of free services are available to support employers and individuals with disabilities in preparing for, obtaining, and retaining meaningful employment.

According to the most recent federal performance data from the U.S. Rehabilitation Services Administration (Program Year 2024), VR Nevada participants working after leaving the program had median quarterly earnings of $6,307, 18% higher than the national median for VR participants. This reflects VR Nevada’s commitment to individualized planning and strong partnerships with Nevada businesses and training providers.

Young Nevadans can access VR services while still in high school through Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS). In Federal Fiscal Year 2025, VR provided Pre-ETS to 2,571 students across 64 schools in 14 districts, helping students explore careers, build workplace readiness skills, and prepare for post-secondary education or employment.

Services are available to individuals who are already employed and may need assistance to remain successful in their current roles. VR can provide rehabilitation technology, worksite modifications, job coaching services and help with workplace accommodation conversations.

“Disability Employment Awareness Month is an opportunity to celebrate the value and talent that people with disabilities bring to Nevada’s workforce every day,” said Drazen Elez, Rehabilitation Division Administrator. “At VR Nevada, our role is to help remove barriers so that individuals can build careers, advance professionally, and contribute their skills and talents to employers across our state.”

DETR encourages individuals, families, educators, and employers to learn more about the services available. Applying is free and VR can help you understand how working may affect existing benefits. To learn more, visit VRNevada.nv.gov.
