“Veteran’s Speak Out” Rally May 23rd in Carson City to Honor Fallen Soldiers

May 23 @ 10:00 am 12:00 pm

Indivisible Carson City (INVCC) is offering memorial art, music, a tribute to fallen soldiers, and veterans speaking out about the war and cuts to military benefits at its “Veterans Speak Out: No to Iran War. No to Benefit Cuts” rally May 23 from 10 a.m. – Noon in front of the Nevada State Legislature.

At the event, volunteer-staffed information tables will include Voter Registration, Get Out the Vote, and the American Federation of Government Employees. Organizers also plan to honor the military causalities of the Iran War with a Tribute to the Fallen, a handmade art installation created by Carson City artists. Since the war began on February 28th, thirteen American service members have been killed and approximately 373 more have been wounded.

Featured speakers for the day will be Dr. Patricia (Pat) Spearman, retired Nevada State senator; Dr. Jeanine Packham, cardiology nurse practitioner at the Reno Veteran’s Administration (VA) Medical Center; Farrell Vaughn, military veteran who served a tour with the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division; and Scott Maryott, retired combat veteran who had assignments that included serving at West Point, in 1/160 SOAR, as an exchange officer in the United Kingdom. Nevada State Senator Angie Taylor, lifelong educator and small business owner, will be the rally’s master of ceremonies.

All Indivisible events share a commitment to nonviolent protest and community safety. Organizers are trained in de-escalation and work closely with local partners to support safe and peaceful protests. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, must not be brought to this event.
