Three Carson City Educators were named “Coach of the Year” for their respective sports.
Carson High Varsity Football Coach Steve Nelms, a P.E. teacher at Mark Twain Elementary, and Varsity Girls Golf Coach Wade Greenlee, former Carson Middle School Math teacher, were both selected by their peers to be honored as 4A and 5A North Coaches of the Year, respectively.
Additionally, the 5A North Cross Country Head Coach of the Year was awarded to Russ Munyan, a Carson High English Teacher.
More impressively, not only did the Senator Girls Cross Country team win the Regional Championship and finish as State Runner-up, but they also finished third in “Team GPA” for the 5A NIAA Academic All State with an average grade point average of 3.92.
Additionally, Carson High School saw more than 20 varsity student-athletes named as Fall 2025 NIAA Academic All State Individual Champions. Those include Julia Aquino for Cheer; Ivan Romeo, Sean Thornton and Mark Walther for Boys Cross Country; Hannah Budd, Vea Miner, Brianna Rodriguez-Nunez and Anna Shane for Girls Cross Country; Alejandro Callejas Garcia, Cooper Feuling, Daniel Rivera, Victor Sencion and Tyler Silsby for Football, Charlotte Roberts for Girls Golf; Gloria Dooley for Girls Soccer; Charlotte Anderson, Kayla Lewis, Olivia Monson and Abigail Wolz for Girls Tennis and Addison McCune, Julie Salanoa, Emma Sanders and Madison Vaccaro for Girls Volleyball.
