Lyon County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies, stationed in the Fernley Patrol area, encountered a man attempting to ride a motorcycle Early Saturday morning, 12:53 a.m. in the 1000 block of Rimfield Drive of Fernley.
Patrol deputies observed the man attempting to get onto the motorcycle, however he fell off the bike resulting in him falling to the ground with the bike on top of him. Deputies stopped to check on the man and found that he appeared to be intoxicated and not in a condition to be driving a motor vehicle.
While speaking to the man, he identified himself as Fernley resident Justin Johnson, 35, however he was not cooperative with the deputies. As they spoke to him they could smell the odor of marijuana on his person, but as they questioned him about that he fled on foot.
Deputies gave chase, and after several warnings to stop, they deployed a Taser striking Johnson as he was attempting to jump a fence. Deputies placed him under arrest and walked him back to their patrol cars.
During a search of his person, they located marijuana in his pocket, along with a large of amount of methamphetamine. Johnson was transported to the Lyon County Jail and booked without further incident.
The marijuana was weighed and found to be 31.7 grams. The methamphetamine tested positive was weighed and found to be just under one and half pounds (1.49 pounds). Johnson was charged with the following crimes:
- Resisting Peace Officer
- Disturbing the Peace
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Open Container (Marijuana)
- Trafficking a Controlled Substance
His bail is $103,430.
