Carson High Athletics is pleased to announce the hiring of Taylor Macedo as the new head varsity cheer coach at Carson High School. She will also teach English at the school, officially beginning in August 2025.
Macedo has coached competitive gymnastics and all-star cheerleading for six years. She was a member of Foothill High School’s competition cheerleading program for four years in Pleasanton, Calif., and she went on to cheer for the California State University, Stanislaus competition team for four years.
She will finish up the 2024-2025 school year teaching seventh/eighth grade English at Delta Charter Elementary in Tracy, Calif., where she’s taught for more than five years. She has also coached Track and Cross Country for the California school.
Macedo earned a bachelor’s in business administration with an emphasis in marketing from Cal State, Stanislaus in 2018, and graduated with teaching credentials from the Teachers College of San Joaquin in 2022 in Stockton, Calif.
She will replace Mikayla Nelms, who has been coaching cheer at Carson High for four years, two of which as the head cheer coach, overseeing both fall and winter sports seasons. Under Nelm’s guidance, and in collaboration with Assistant Varsity Cheer Coach Amber Willey and Assistant Cheer Coach Sheila Story, the cheer team at Carson High has participated in various events and competitions, including the school’s popular cheer fundraiser, Mr. Carson High, and the USA Spirit National Cheer Competition. With her departure, Nelms plans to spend more time with her family.
