The Nevada Army National Guard landed a CH47F Chinook helicopter on the main lawn at Eagle Valley Middle School in Carson City on Tuesday.
The crew was available to visit with students through 2 p.m. The students went aboard to tour the helicopter and the crew answered various questions about serving in the armed services, specifically aboard a helicopter in the Nevada National Guard.
Eighth grade student Kaylee Nielson asked the school’s principal, Lee Conley, if she could help arrange the visit prior to Veterans Day. Due to high winds Thursday, the landing was rescheduled.
Sue Moulden, assistant principal, explained that many students at Eagle Valley Middle School have shown interest in the armed forces.
“Just having this opportunity to feel and touch something that you only see in games, or movies is really valuable to these kids,” she said.
