Fire crews from around the region are responding to a brush fire that sparked near Boomtown west of Reno Sunday, according to fire officials.
Crews from Carson City, East Fork Fire, Tahoe Douglas, Storey County and North Lyon County Fire Protection District have sent crews to the fire, burning south of I-80 in the Verdi area. Multiple fire and police agencies are on the scene working to evacuate residents in the Quilici Ranch Road area, according to Reno Police.
Carson City sent a type 1 team staffed with three firefighters, said Carson City Fire Department On-Duty Battalion Chief Jason Danen.
As of 5 p.m. the fire had burned at least 125 acres, fire officials said. Target shooting is suspected as the cause.
