Looks like the threat of mutually assured political/public destruction led Jim and Dawn Gibbons to finally come to an agreement to end their marriage.
According to the report from Geoff Dornan, the couple and their lawyers worked until the wee hours in advance of their court date on Monday to hash out a compromise. Jim’s delay in answering the question of whether the deal was fair and equitable says a lot about the pressure he felt to settle this dispute quickly, in a vain attempt to resurrect his political career. Gee, still clueless after all these years.
I was meaning to drive by the mansion to see if I could get photos of the moving van taking Dawn’s things out of the guest cottage, but couldn’t bring myself to do it. It’s over.
There are a couple of related loose ends to keep watch on. One, if Jim suddenly comes up with the money to pay off his share of the Elko County property from one of his fat-cat donors. After all, he does need a place to retire to after ex-AG Sandoval cleans his clock in the GOP primary next year.
Another loose end (no pun intended) is what woman will be showing up on his arm now that he’s officially single. Are there any candidates out there who want to be the next First Lady of Nevada? Or, after two divorces, has Jim finally soured on marriage?
Or maybe the real question is whether Nevadans have soured on hearing about Jim’s love life.
