The Mormon Emigrant Trail that links Highway 88 and Highway 50 will close for the season on Friday, the U.S. Forest Service announced.
The road will be gated closed near the Iron Mountain Snopark, which is at 7,000-foot elevation. The route will reopen in the spring, when conditions improve.
Signs will be posted on the Mormon Emigrant Trail near its intersection with Sly Park Road as well as beyond the dam at Jenkinson Lake. The northwest end of the route near Jenkinson Lake will not be gated which will allow continued to allow access to Eldorado National Forest land, however, through traffic to Highway 88 will not be not possible.
