Courtesy of a grant from the Lake Tahoe-based Dave and Cheryl Duffield Foundation, homeless pets in Northern Nevada, including right here in Carson City, can find their forever homes with waived adoption fees.

This is good news for families who want to add a cat or a dog to their household, but who may get discouraged by adoption fees.

Maddie’s Pet Adoption DaysMaddie’s began Friday around Carson City, including at the Nevada Humane Society Carson City Animal Shelter and Catmandu. Multiple retail venues are hosting pet rescue groups as well. Those include C-A-L Ranch on North Carson Street, Petsmart at Fairview Drive and South Carson Street, and Petco off Topsy Lane in South Carson City.

A stipulation of the grant is that all pets adopted during the weekend event must be spayed or neutered within seven days of adoption. Some of the adoption nonprofits have either taken care of that expense already. Others have those services available at discounted rates.

In Carson City, participating locations are as follows:
