Another accident late this Friday afternoon has traffic backed up at Fifth Street west of the Carson City bypass. At least two vehicles are involved, according Carson City fire and sheriff’s officers reporting. Slick and slippery conditions around the bypass and overpass persist as snow piles up and temperatures continue to drop.
Unstable and snowy weather conditions will continue through Saturday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Reno. A Lake Effect Snow Warning has been issued for the yellow shaded areas on the map above, including Fernley, Carson City and Minden.
Narrow bands of heavy snow accumulations of 6-12 inches are likely east of Lake Tahoe and 5-10 inches southeast of Pyramid Lake, but isolated locations may receive much higher accumulations if a heavy snow band persists overhead for several hours. Anyone planning travel east of Lake Tahoe on Highways 28 and 50, and Highway 395/Interstate 580 between Washoe Valley and Minden, or southeast of Pyramid Lake on Interstate 80 near and east of Fernley, and Nevada Highway 447 from Wadsworth to Nixon should prepare for slick roads with rapid changes in visibility and snow accumulations.
