Catherine Ann Ortiz 06/10/1965 – 10/18/2025
Catherine Ann Ortiz, 60, a devout Christian from Carson City, Nevada, returned to the Lord on Saturday, October 18th.
She was born in Palo Alto, CA on June 10, 1965 to John and Kathleen Sciascia, finally settling in Carson City. Katie attended Carson High School before going to work in banking and HR. Although if you asked her, she would say that her best and greatest job was to be a wife and mother.
Growing up, Katie was a bright child who enjoyed music, drama, and theater. Despite moving around, she was always able to make friends where ever she landed. Her love of theater and drama continued into her adulthood where she participated in church programs for the holidays and vacation bible school.
Katie was a devoted Christian who cherished her “tribe,” Women’s Studies, and the teachings of Jesus. She attended Fountainhead Foursquare Church, which later became Shine A Jesus Church, of Carson City, and took solace in the peace, love, and joy of the Lord. Not only was she a steadfast member of her congregation, but she was also a leader, teacher, and mentor to many women in her area.
Katie touched the lives of her close friends and family and the lives of so many in her community. Everyone that knew her could tell you of the love and brightness she brought with her when she walked in the room. Her big blue eyes and radiant smile brought comfort and joy to all who encountered her. Her laugh was infectious and her hugs were cherished.
Her relationship with Jesus touched every aspect of her life and molded her into the beloved and joyful person that she was. Some of her favorite bible verses were Proverbs 3:24, Psalm 27:13, and 1 Corinthians 13:4-8.
Katie was preceded in death by her son Andrew Ortiz, her father John Sciascia, and her godson Alexander Parker, who she will see again in Heaven. She is survived by her daughter Emily Phipps, her husband Daniel Ortiz, her brother Joseph Sciascia, her mother Kathleen Sciascia, and mother-in-law Rosalina Ortiz.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025 at 11:30am at the Shine A Jesus Church (3690 N Hwy 395, Carson City, NV 89705). In lieu of flowers, donations to Shine A Jesus Church or The Dream Center in her name would honor her greatly.
