A mobile home received significant damage on Monday after a structure fire in the area of Poole Way near Lompa Lane in Carson City. No one was home at the time.

Children in an adjacent home told a Carson City sheriff’s deputy that the mobile was occupied by their grandmother and that she was not home at the time. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The fire caused damage to the residence, an adjacent shed, fence and a vehicle next to the home, said Carson City Battalion Chief Bob Charles. About 15 percent of the main residence was damaged. Estimated loss may be between $25,000 to $35,000. The fire was knocked down in about six minutes.

Carson City firefighters were called to the fire in the 2300 block of Poole Way at around 4 p.m. Fire trucks arriving on scene reported a heavy amount of smoke in the area upon arrival and a nearby home was evacuated. Three engines and a rescue crew responded. No one was injured. A cat, believed to be inside, made its way out of the home.

Carson City Sheriff’s deputy Rich Encinas said that when he arrived there was smoke and flames coming from the home. As the first person to arrived after the call, Encinas knocked on the door of the home several times before flames and smoke became too thick.

As firefighters began to douse it, Encinas went to the adjacent home to find out who the home belonged to and if anyone could have been inside.

Red Cross responded to provide assistance to the resident.
