Future law enforcement officers know the value of community service efforts, especially in Nevada’s capital city.

On Sunday, Carson City Sheriff’s Office Youth Cadet Program members are serving up the public with a delicious meal at the 4th annual pancake breakfast fundraiser, happening until 11 a.m., inside the Ormsby Room at the sheriff’s office, 911 E Musser Street.

Cadets are doing the cooking, with pancakes and eggs, coffee and juice donated by Carson City Grocery Outlet. The public is invited. All proceeds go to the cadet program, which pays for equipment, uniforms and competitions.

Cadet server Mikelyn Gettis serves up breakfast for guest MaryAnn Tontlewicz.

The cadet program is for youth 14-21 who wish to learn about law enforcement. Cadets are challenged mentally and physically during weekly training events and annual competitions. Cadets participate in special events around the community, ride alongs and department training.

Cadet Mikelyn Gettis serves CCSO Sgt. Darin Riggin at Sunday’s breakfast. In the back checking in guests are Cadet Lance Matt and Cadet Lt. Kenison Warner.
