A large demonstration was held Saturday morning in front of the state capitol building in downtown Carson City, among more than 2,700 events nationwide demonstrating against Trump administration policies.
While there is no official estimate, the “No Kings” demonstration brought several hundred protestors to Carson Street in front of the capitol, with some estimates of more than a 1,000 showing up. It was held from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.
The demonstration was peaceful with no problems to deal with, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.
Similar demonstrations in the region were held in Reno and at Lake Tahoe.
The protest is part of a grass roots movement across the country put together by several organizations including 50501, Public Citizen, the ACLU and more.
Locally, the Carson City demonstration was organized by Take Action Northern Nevada, which said in a message afterward that its count was 1,080.
The Reno demonstration was organized by Indivisible Northern Nevada in coordination with 50501 Northern Nevada, Bans Off Our Bodies, Biggest Little Action Group, Northern Nevada Central Labor Council and Third Act Nevada.
