Celebrating everything that is the famed Ford Bronco and its 60th anniversary this year, the final day of the fourth annual Bronco Super Celebration is happening today, Saturday, at Mills Park in Carson City and this afternoon at Capital Ford.
Since Thursday, well over 100 of the popular off-road vehicles — from the first model to the most current — are in Carson City, with enthusiasts coming arriving from as far as Alaska and Georgia as well as throughout Nevada and California.
The Carson City celebration is among four nationwide, according to Tom Broberg, event organizer and publisher of Bronco Driver Magazine, noting this is also the 60th year of the Ford Bronco.
Why the Ford Bronco? What makes them unique?
“Each Bronco can individually be made into what a person wants — soft top, heart top. No doors, doors. So it’s kind of made into a cool individualized vehicle, which makes it a lure to a variety of people,” said Broberg.
That and the culture behind the Ford Bronco, which is why he started the magazine 25 years ago.
“It’s about the people that make up the Bronco community. How interesting they are, what they do, the adventures they take. You know, it’s about a lifestyle or Bronco lifestyle, an outdoor lifestyle, an adventurous lifestyle. That’s why Ford markets its Bronco as “Built Wild.”

For Madi Baroni of Carson City, the event is special because it is in her hometown. She said she likes to showcase her 1982 XLT Lariat Ford Bronco she got when she was 14 and built it out with the guidance of her grandfather, Tod McIntosh.
She said along with Aiden Carstens and McIntosh, they’ve been able to do a lot with it, transforming it over the years.
“When I was 14, I got it and it was just a body. We built a motor and re-did all the interior and then he helped me lift it a year ago,” Baroni said, noting that “it’s great we’re one of the four states that gets the Ford Bronco celebration.”
Taking advantage of the ideal weather conditions this week, Ford Bronco enthusiasts enjoyed traveling to gold mining towns, ghost towns, Lake Tahoe, exploring the off road and rugged adventures including Prison Hill OHV. Off-road activities this week were organized by Wild Horses 4 x 4.
Later today, The Pony Show will showcase classic Ford Mustangs and Broncos, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Capital Ford, 2660 South Carson Street in Carson City.
The public is invited to the free event and can bring their classic Ford Mustangs and their Ford Broncos. The event features live music, food trucks, raffle prizes and accessory vendors.
