The Carson City Regional Transportation Commission announced Wednesday some minor adjustments to JAC Routes 2A and 2B, including the extension of service to the Parkway Professional Center on Goni Road and the new Nevada Health Centers location on Research Way.
“Our customers alerted us to the need to access medical and social service facilities in this area and we responded with this route adjustment,” said Ken Smithson, Transit Coordinator in a news release. “This allows customers to ride safely to and from their destinations in this area.”
Beginning Monday, Oct. 22, Routes 2A and 2B will provide service south of College Parkway for the first time, with bus stops located at the east entrance to the professional center as well as in front of the health center. This will be in addition to service north of College Parkway — on Research Way, Old Hot Springs Road and Goni Road — which will remain unchanged.
The only other adjustment to Route 2A will be that it will no longer directly serve the Senior Center on Beverly Drive on its return trip downtown. However, there is a bus stop on Long Street at Health & Human Services — which is adjacent to the Senior Center — and Routes 1 and 2B will continue to serve the Senior Center bus stop as always, the release states.
“This is the first significant change to the JAC route structure since March 2008,” said Patrick Pittenger, Transportation Manager. “The RTC is pleased to see ridership on the JAC system now reaching nearly 18,000 passengers per month, and is committed to being as responsive as possible to the transit needs of our community.”
JAC just began its 8th year of service to Carson City and is governed by the RTC.

Some of the scheduled times have changed slightly, so persons should check the schedules for these adjustments.
