Carson City Public Works will begin final pavement resurfacing operations on the East William Street Project on Monday, Oct. 12, marking the final major construction milestone for the corridor improvement project. Pavement resurfacing work is expected to continue through Thursday, Oct. 22, weather permitting.
Work will take place along East William Street between Roop Street and Russell Way, near I-580. Crews will remove 1 inch of the existing roadway surface with a fine-drum mill and then place new asphalt.
“We’re pleased to reach the final phase of paving of the East William Street Project,” said Carson City Engineer Darren Anderson. “This work represents the last major step toward completing the project, and we appreciate the community’s continued patience as crews finish the improvements.”
To accommodate paving operations, East William Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction with traffic shifts throughout the corridor. Motorists can expect to drive on the milled roadway surface for approximately one week before final paving is completed.
Work will also take place on Saturday, Oct. 17. During working hours, the Saliman intersection will be closed to northbound and southbound traffic. The intersection will remain open to eastbound and westbound traffic on William Street.
Working hours for paving operations is Monday – Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Business Access: Access to businesses will be maintained throughout paving operations. Paving directly in front of business driveways is scheduled for Monday, October 19. Each driveway along William Street will experience a brief closure of approximately one hour while crews place and compact the new asphalt. A flagger will assist motorists and provide a detour as needed. When available, motorists should use alternative access points.
Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and follow all posted traffic control signage.
Construction schedules are subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen conditions.
Following paving, crews will place final striping, install landscaping, and complete minor finishing elements. Weather dependent, the project is on schedule to be fully completed in November.
