Faith Barber, Caseworker/Coordinator with the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, and Jackie, Case Manager with Advocates to End Domestic Violence, represent the agencies’ partnership to provide weekly domestic violence education at the Carson City Jail.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Family Services Unit (FSU) has partnered with Advocates to End Domestic Violence (AEDV) to provide weekly domestic violence education to incarcerated mothers and other participating women at the Carson City Jail.

Through this collaboration, Jackie, a case manager with Advocates to End Domestic Violence, facilitates weekly education designed to increase participants’ understanding of domestic violence, healthy and unhealthy relationship dynamics, warning signs, boundaries, safety, and available community resources.

The partnership reflects the Family Services Unit’s prevention-focused approach of addressing issues that can affect not only an incarcerated parent, but also their children and family.

“When we know better, we can choose better. That is what we hope to accomplish through education,” said Faith Barber, Family Services Unit Caseworker.

The weekly classes provide a supportive educational environment where participants can gain practical knowledge, identify resources, and develop skills that can support safer relationships and healthier families after release.

The partnership also strengthens the connection between jail-based services and community-based domestic violence resources. By bringing AEDV expertise directly into the jail, participants can become familiar with services and support that may remain available to them as they transition back into the community.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Family Services Unit works with incarcerated parents, their children, and caregivers to reduce barriers, strengthen families, and help prevent child abuse and neglect. Services include parenting education, individualized case management, family and reentry support, referrals, and coordinated connections with community partners.

Advocates to End Domestic Violence provides advocacy, education, resources, and support to individuals and families affected by domestic violence.

This partnership represents a shared commitment to prevention, education, and safer families throughout the Carson City community.
