UPDATE 9:27 p.m.: Sheriff Furlong said the standoff has concluded. Three children were recovered from the home. He said they are “safe and fine, and appear to be in good spirits.”

The adult male is in custody and is being transported to the hospital for serious leg injuries that were sustained prior to this incident according to Furlong.

Pinion Hills will reopen shortly. There were no injuries that occurred during the standoff, and no property damage was sustained.

CPS has been called for the children and they will be evaluated.

Just before 8 p.m., Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong reported deputies have been engaged in a standoff with two individuals since before noon Thursday.

According to Furlong, a wellness check was initiated after two elementary school aged children have not been seen in a week’s time. The mother and her significant other are refusing to produce the children and are barricaded inside their residence.

SWAT has been engaged, and Furlong reported the man has a history of violent offenses, including domestic violence crimes, and he currently has several warrants out for his arrest.

Due to the presence of the children, the standoff is likely to be ongoing, Furlong said. The 1600 block of Pinion Hills Drive in Carson City is closed and will remain closed to the public for the foreseeable future.

“All efforts to negotiate have failed,” Furlong said.

He said they know at least two children are inside the home, but there may be a third child inside as well.

At this time, there has not been a confirmation that the adults are armed, but Furlong said the children’s safety is their top priority.

Updates to follow.
