A 49-year-old man wanted in California on felony fugitive from justice charges was arrested Sunday morning in the area of Carson and Corbett streets, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Taken into custody was On Tran of Reno. According to the arrest report, deputies found the man in a park area at Corbett and Carson Street changing his pants. He was cooperative in giving officers information but didn’t have identification on him. Dispatch ran his name and it came back with the warrants.
He told deputies he lives in Reno, was visiting Carson City and told officers he did not spend the night in the park where officers contacted him. Dispatch informed deputies that Tran had three felony warrants: One in Superior Court of California dated Feb. 19, 2015, and two others in Sacramento Superior Court from March 19, 2015. Details of the warrants were not provided. He is being held without bail awaiting extradition.
In other arrests: A 27-year-old Carson City woman, Samantha Sheree Slater, was arrested Sunday, 2:55 a.m. in the 3300 block of Imperial Way on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance, and misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. According to the arrest report, deputies were in the area and made contact with a vehicle with four people inside and marijuana coming from inside. Officers spoke with the person and recovered marijuana from one of them. Slater was asked if she had drugs on her or in a purse. She told officers she didn’t and did not want them to search her purse, the arrest report states.
A search warrant was obtained to look through the vehicle and two purses. Inside Slater’s purse officers found heroin, burnt tin foil, a tooter straw commonly used to inhale drugs, a glass pipe with suspected methamphetamine residue and a marijuana cigarette. Bail: $4,374.
— A 22-year-old transient, Daniel Louis Viola, was booked into jail Saturday, 8:26 p.m. on a felony warrant for eluding issued Sept. 8, 2015 out of Walker River Township. Bail: $20,000.
— A 47-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 11:06 p.m. in the area of Curry Street north of Rhodes on misdemeanor suspicion of DUI and probation violation. According to the arrest report, officers were called to a single vehicle accident. Officers arrived and met with the man who was walking around his vehicle, a red Saturn.
The man said he was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle and said he was not injured.
While speaking with the man, deputies observed he had red watery eyes, slurred speech, was shaky on his feet and had difficulties maintaining balance. He admitted to taking Norco and Oxycotin for pain medication. He said he has prescription for the meds.
He submitted to standardized field sobriety tests which indicated impairment. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
He is on Alternative Sentencing which advised and requested an additional charge for probation violation. Deputies read the man a request for voluntary evidence. He did not answer when asked if he would provide a voluntary blood sample. Officers were able to get a telephonic search warrant and a blood draw was complete. Bail: $6,137.
— A 72-year-old Minden man was arrested Sunday, 1:04 a.m. in the area of Fifth and Stewart streets on suspicion of DUI. According to the arrest report, a deputy patrolling the area observed a vehicle traveling eastbound on Spear approach the stop sign, slowed down at the stop sign and rolled through Stewart Street. The driver then saw the officer, and picked up speed, turning southbound on Stewart. The officer stopped the man and could smell an odor of alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. The man was asked if he would submit to field sobriety tests and he said yes. Deputies observed clues of impairment. He was arrested. Bail: $1,137.
