A 64-year-old Washington State man was arrested late Monday for suspicion of two counts felony assault with a deadly weapon and other alleged offenses, according to a Carson City Sheriff’s Office booking report.
Following an investigation, CCSO deputies arrested Bradley Bruenn, listed from Yakima, Wash. He was also booked for suspicion of misdemeanor drawing a deadly weapon in a threatening manner, making a false statement to a public officer and resisting.
According to the booking report, deputies responded to Walmart on Market Street for an assault with a deadly weapon, reported at 10:42 p.m. Deputies arrived and met with the victims, who stated man in a blue van with Washington State license plates pulled up to them, brandished a pistol, pointed it at them and then drove off.
One victim said they were in a nearby field feeding birds when the suspect began yelling at him and his friend. The victim stated they began to walk back to their vehicle, which was parked in the Walmart parking lot in front of the home and garden entrance, the report states.
The victim said the suspect driver pulled in behind them and then produced a black pistol that had markings on the side of the slide. The victim said the driver pointed the pistol at him and the other victim, saying “this is what’s up,” and drove away, the report states.
Dispatch was able to run the plate and was able to identify the vehicle registered to Bradley Bruenn of Washington State. The second victim said they walked over to the field and said a man in a blue van pulled up yelling racial slurs and then produced a gun and pointed it a both of them, the report states.
The incident was captured on surveillance camera footage from Walmart. The camera footage was reviewed and did not show the firearm being produced. The reactions of the victims showed a significant behavior change, however, indicating that something serious happened before the van drove away, according to the report.
The suspect vehicle was located at a nearby parking lot near a retaining wall. The vehicle was surrounded by marked Carson City patrol vehicles and illuminated with takedown spotlights.
The suspect vehicle was then challenged with verbal commands. Eventually, the sole occupant of the vehicle crawled out of the back seat (compartment) area and into the driver’s seat. The suspect driver sat in the driver’s seat and attempted to start the vehicle. He was uncooperative with verbal commands being given to him, the report states.
He initially refused to place his hands outside the driver’s window, then pulled his hands back into the vehicle and appeared to attempt to start the vehicle again. Eventually he exited the vehicle and again would not comply with verbal commands to keep his hands in the air.
The suspect was then tasered and taken into custody where Carson City Fire Department was called to remove the taser probes from the suspect’s person, according to the report. The suspect then refused medical treatment.
Deputies cleared the rest of the vehicle where a pistol was located in the rear passenger compartment. The pistol was then rendered safe by removing the magazine and locking the slide to the rear, the report states. In doing so, it revealed there was a live round in the chamber and one additional round in the magazine, the report states. The pistol, holster, extra magazine and ammo were collected as evidence. The report notes all items collected were booked as evidence.
The victims were shown a photo of the suspect and the weapon, in which they positively identified Bruenn as the driver of the van who brandished the pistol and pointed it at them, the report states.
The suspect was taken to the hospital for medical evaluation. While there the report notes the man was highly belligerent with deputies. The suspect stated he did not wish to receive medical assistance and was medically cleared and taken to jail. He was booked for the alleged crimes of two counts brandishing or drawing a deadly weapon, two counts assault with a deadly weapon, obstructing and resisting a public officer. Bail: $30,000.

— A 69-year-old man, Michael Eldon Watson, was arrested Monday for suspicion of felony failure to register as a sex offender. He was taken to the hospital due to intoxication levels where he was cleared and taken to jail. Bail: $2,500.
— A 26-year-old Carson City woman was booked Monday into Carson City Jail after turning herself in for a misdemeanor bench warrant. Bail: $3,000 cash.
— A 49-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday for violation of probation conditions of a suspended sentence. No bail hold in lieu of hearing.
— A 34-year-old Washoe Valley man was arrested Sunday for possession of a controlled substance and a misdemeanor bench warrant. Bail: $3,000.
— A 34-year-old man was arrested Monday for a misdemeanor outside agency warrant issued out of Sparks Justice Court. Bail: $605.
