A Monday morning filled with excitement, smiles and even a few tears was widely experienced among children and parents as the first day of school began in the Carson City School District.
Superintendent AJ Feuling was at Al Seeliger Elementary School to greet children and parents, along with Principal Kari Pryor. Also on hand was a host of staffers who directed children to their classrooms.
The first day back is always exciting and brings a wonderful opportunity for parents and their children to experience a shared tradition, said Carson City School District spokesman Dan Davis.
“The first week back is a lot about students becoming more familiar with the teacher, the teachers becoming familiar with the students and setting the expectations of learning, how we do things and what we expect in terms of behavior,” said Davis.
“Conversely also with parents too, with similar conversations of being what we expect as far as parent involvement and what we expect in terms of behavior and modeling,” he said. “Ideally it is the first week of school so everybody is excited.”
There’s a number of upcoming activities and back-to-school events where parents and families can come and meet their teachers and have those conversations about expectations, said Davis. Go here for the district calendar and scroll to the section “school calendars” for campus dates and activities.
“We’re excited for a full new year of learning,” said Davis.
School starts Wednesday for Carson City students in Kindergarten and pre-K.
