The Carson City Senior Center is inviting the community to celebrate a remarkable milestone during its 50-Year Anniversary Community Open House today, Saturday, August 15, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive, Carson City.
This free, family-friendly celebration honors five decades of serving older adults while welcoming residents of all ages to experience everything the Senior Center offers. Guests will enjoy an afternoon of entertainment, history, food, and community connection.
The celebration will begin with a sparkling cider toast commemorating the Center’s 50 years of service. Throughout the event, attendees can enjoy live music by the Capital City Strummers, exciting games of bingo, and fascinating local history presentations by David and Gayle Woodruff.
Visitors are also invited to tour the Senior Center and learn more about its programs and services that have enriched the lives of Carson City residents for the past 50 years.
Complimentary pizza, ice cream, and soda will be available while supplies last, along with raffle prizes, swag bags, and other fun surprises.
What began as a community vision to enrich the lives of local seniors became a reality through a key partnership with the Carson City Kiwanis Club. Volunteers banded together to rescue buildings scheduled for demolition, moving and combining them on a vacant lot at Roop and Beverly streets.
The original Senior Center featured activity rooms, a dining hall, and a modest daily output of 65 meals (60 on-site and 5 delivered). Fast forward to 2026, and the Senior Center has transformed into a bustling 33,000-square-foot campus.
Today, it boasts a state-of-the-art commercial kitchen, a massive dining area, and a range of recreational spaces. Reflecting this incredible growth, the daily lunch program now serves 200 meals on-site and delivers an additional 320 to homebound seniors through Meals on Wheels.
“This milestone is a celebration of the people, volunteers, staff, and community partners who have helped make the Carson City Senior Center a place of friendship, support, and connection for the past 50 years,” said Courtney Warner, Senior Center Director. “We invite everyone to join us as we celebrate our history and look forward to the future.”
