Linda Buchanan, Catmandu

  • Me before the fire destroyed our home.
  • Arrived at Catmandu
  • I'm ready for my new forever home

Jewels is a sweet, loving, beautiful girl who has been through the flames, risen from the ashes and is hoping for a loving forever home for the rest of her life. A long haired girl who loves to be brushed, she is a strong and healthy 12 years young. Since many cats live to be 20 or older, Jewels likely has some good years left to share with the right loving human companion.

We’ll let Jewels tell you her story: “I lived with my humans and cat brother my entire life. I was Mama’s little girl; very well-loved and spoiled. About a year ago our house caught fire. A fireman found and carried me from the burning building. While we all thankfully escaped, the house was unlivable. The insurance didn’t pay enough to rebuild. The humans had a really hard time finding a place to live and everywhere they were told ‘No pets allowed’. My brother and I had no place to go, so we stayed in the burnt-out house. The humans came as often as they could to leave food and water and clean our litter box. Three months ago my brother died and I was all alone in the burnt-out husk of my home. Someone told my human mom about Catmandu and they agreed to take me. While it is really nice to have a clean place to live with kind people around who pet and brush me, I dream of having a real home of my own again. I don’t ask for much, just a soft bed, regular brushing, some loving care and a kind hearted person to cuddle with.”

Because of her mature status, Jewels is eligible for our Senior-to-Senior long-term foster program which places senior cats with senior citizens age 55+. The cat lives with you and for all intents and purposes is your cat. The only difference is that if something happens to you and you’re no longer able to care for your kitty, the cat can return to Catmandu. Also, if they develop any health issues, we provide their medical care through homeopathy and our veterinarian.
If you have room in your heart and home for this sweet, beautiful girl, and can give her a stable home and the love she deserves, please visit her and the many wonderful cats at Catmandu. We are open Friday – Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1829 Brown Street.
Catmandu is a cage-free non-profit cat sanctuary and rescue. Since opening in 2014, Catmandu has helped more than 2300 cats and kittens find a better life. Most of them come from disadvantaged backgrounds. They are strays, feral born, or abandoned. Catmandu needs the support of our community to stay open.
