Sierra Nevada Realtors will host its annual free “Document Destruction Day” on Saturday, July 19 in Carson City. Every year, the event provides locals with the opportunity to safely dispose of old records, documents, and personal files.

The event will be hosted at SNR’s Carson City office, located at 300 S. Curry Street, from 8:30 to 11 a.m.

Safely disposing sensitive documents is more important than ever, says SNR. Shredding old bank statements, tax records, credit card offers, and other personal information significantly lowers the risk of identity theft and fraud.

These events offer a secure and convenient way for residents to protect their personal data, declutter, and gain peace of mind, according to SNR in a news release.

“Our primary goal with our free Document Destruction Days is simple: to offer our community a secure and straightforward way to responsibly clear out sensitive documents,” said April LaBrie, Chief Executive Officer of Sierra Nevada Realtors. “We’re excited to offer a day of community enjoyment, while also building a stronger future for our local students through impactful scholarships, thanks to the incredible support of our generous event supporters.”

While this service is free, SNR is accepting monetary donations in lieu of box charges. All proceeds will go directly to the Sierra Nevada Realtors Foundation, which supports a variety of initiatives, including providing grants to local nonprofit organizations dedicated to making a positive impact.

At the heart of its mission is the Alyce McCracken Memorial Award, which awards $1,000 scholarships to students at 24 high schools across Northern Nevada. These scholarships support graduating seniors continuing their education at four-year universities, two-year colleges, or accredited trade and technical schools. Last year, the Sierra Nevada Realtors Foundation awarded $23,000 to local high school graduates.
