The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified three Dayton area residents who died in a head-on crash Wednesday on Highway 50 near Six Mile Canyon Road.
Ellis Lee Erwin, 73 and Louise Erwin, 72, both of Dayton, and Michelle Marie Stratton, 43, of Dayton Valley, died at the scene of the accident five miles south of Dayton, reported at 3:31 p.m., said NHP Trooper Daniel Lopez.
The preliminary crash investigation details learned so far indicate that a white Ford F-150 driven by Ellis Lee Erwin was traveling eastbound on Highway 50 when for unknown reasons drifted in to the westbound travel lanes striking a white Toyota Camry driven by Michelle Marie Stratton, said Lopez.
Public safety personnel temporarily closed the westbound travel lanes allowing traffic to use the dirt shoulder. One eastbound lane was open to allow traffic to flow eastbound. All lanes were open at approximately 9 p.m.
Trooper Doug Hildebrand of the Major Accident Investigation Team or M.A.I.T. is investigating this tragedy, said Lopez. Witnesses or anyone with information are encouraged to contact him at (775) 688-2500 or dhildebrand@dps.state.nv.us regarding case number NHP-1230700961
