A dangerous heat advisory in effect for western Nevada, including the Reno-Carson-Minden area, and the Surprise Valley in California from 11 a.m. Sunday through 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Avoid strenuous outdoor activities and drink plenty of water.

High temperatures of 95-105 degrees expected with overnight low temperatures in the upper 60s and lower 70s. Widespread Major Heat Risk with isolated areas of Extreme Heat Risk.

The warning is for Surprise Valley in California and in Nevada, the areas of: Northern Washoe County, Western Nevada Basin and Range including Pyramid Lake, Greater Reno-Carson City-Minden Area, and Mineral and Southern Lyon Counties.

Heat related illnesses increase significantly during heat events, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
