The summer sun offers so many wonderful options: an early morning bike ride, a trip to Virginia City on the historic V and T railroad, or maybe a picnic and some live music in a park. All these and more are available today. Beat the heat with a trip to the movie theater – The Sandlot will take you back in time. The Chili Cook-off and Craft Fair continues at Glen Eagles. The Corvettes have taken over at Michael Hohl. Over 50 members of the Reno Corvette Club are competing for bragging rights and a trophy. Keep reading for even more summer fun.

SUNDAY:

  • — Breakfast and Bowling at Carson Lanes (breakfast served 7:30am -11am, unlimited bowling 9am-12pm; $13, $8 kids 8 and younger)
  • Muscle Powered Weekly Bike Ride – Meet in the south parking lot of Fremont Elementary School, next to the Linear Ditch Trail (meet at 8am; consists of two loops 10-15 miles long each, this will allow a rider to do 10-15 miles or 20-30 miles; ride pace will vary depending on rider level, but usually about 12-16 mph; All riders must have a bicycle in safe working condition, helmet, and closed toed shoes.   • — Douglas County Junior Rodeo at the Douglas County Fairgrounds: 920 Dump Road, Gardnerville (Grand Entry 8am; free admission)
  • Community Yoga with Allison Reitz at Comma Coffee (9am-10am; $10 cash only; beginners are welcome; Bring your mind, body, and mat; a limited number of extra mats will be available)
  • Seventh Annual Reno Corvette Club Show and Shine at Michael Hohl Motor Company: 3700 S. Carson St. (9am-12pm; More than 50 Corvettes will be on display competing for Best in Class and Best of Show trophies)
  • Carson City BMX Gold Cup Qualifier at the Livermore (Edmonds) Sports Complex: 1555 Livermore Lane (main gate open by 8:30am, sign-ups 9am-10:30am, call/text 775-220-7111 if running late; $35 – Triple points; Multi-points or special races no track bucks given or received)
  • — Rides on the 1926 Edwards Motor Car at the Nevada State Railroad Museum (museum open 9am-4:30pm, train runs every half hour 10am-4pm; museum admission $6, under 18 and FNSRM members free; train rides $4 adults, $2 kids and FNSRM members)
  • — Virginia and Truckee Round-trip Steam Train Rides: leave from Carson City Eastgate Depot: on Flint Drive, off U.S. Highway 50 East (Depart Carson City 10am, please arrive 30 minutes early – Depart Virginia City 3pm; $52, seniors and veterans $48, kids 3-16 $32; tickets limited, available online HERE)
  • — Spirit of America Art Show in the Nevada Artists Association Gallery at the Brewery Arts Center (10am-4pm)
  • Ferris Speaker Series: ‘The Second Nevada Discovery Ride’ with equestrienne and rider Samantha Szeciorka at the Dangberg Home Historic Ranch Park: 1450 Hwy 88, Minden (10am; free; bring a picnic, lawn chairs; no pets; an entertaining and educational look at the challenges of the trail and the hidden beauty of Nevada)
  • Annual Nevada Capital Regional Competition Chili Cook-off and Craft Fair at Glen Eagles Restaurant (11am-5pm; tasting kits $3; benefit for Honor Flight Nevada)
