UPDATE: The nonprofit organization that provides a warming shelter for homeless at Carson City area churches during the winter months is hosting an upcoming “Hands Across Carson” barbecue fundraiser July 19 at the Governor’s Mansion.
Night off the Streets, (aka NOTS), in coordination with multiple Carson City churches, provides homeless persons a warm place to sleep overnight during the cold winter months of November through March.

The “Hands Across Carson: Getting Groovy” fundraiser will be held Saturday, July 19 from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at the Governor’s Mansion, 606 Mountain Street in Carson City.
“It’s a fundraiser our volunteers have put together,” said Jodi Miller, Center Manager for Night off the Streets. “With grant funding the way it is, we are trying to do what we can to make sure NOTS is still here to help the unhoused in Carson City.”
Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said while the Night Off the Streets program is best know for its winter commitment to sheltering disadvantaged people, the program actually provides critical and essential services year-round for the community.
“As a partner agency to the Sheriff’s Office, NOTS is counted upon by first responders for its referrals, services, and resource assistance abilities,” said Sheriff Furlong. “Further, Night Off the Streets’ volunteers frequently provide trusted information that aids in connecting transient disadvantaged people with the means to elevate themselves to sustainable opportunities. Critical to the community, Night Off the Streets is a vital resource to the greater Carson City Community.”
The fundraiser will include a barbecue-style menu with catering by Coco ‘N Moes, plus music by local band Classic Vinyl, raffles, an auction, dancing, trivia and more.
The menu features smoked chicken, smoked brisket, smoked ribs, macaroni and cheese, granny apple slaw, barbwire beans and corn muffins. Desert will be fresh summer short cake bar.
Sponsors of the event are CoCos “N” Moes, Bonanza Septic and Jetting Solutions, Kimmie Candy, Carson Tahoe Health, Sun King Window Tinting, Smith Automotive, Allison MacKenzie, Ltd Attorneys and Counselors at Law, United Federal Credit Union, Les Schwab Tire Center – North Carson City, Studio 218 Hair Design and Grocery Outlet – Carson City and Dayton.
