If you haven’t stowed your skis or snowboards already, you can still get some slope time this weekend as three resorts are offering snowsporting: Kirkwood Mountain Resort, Squaw Valley and Mammoth Mountain.
At Squaw catch the cable car and hike maybe a quarter mile to the Shirley Lake lift. There slip on the skis or boards and ride away. It’s fun, I’ve done it and got a free T-shirt in the process.
At Mammoth Mountain just get up to the lodge and find a running lift and enjoy. Mammoth snow has held up fine.
At Kirkwood, there’s a race set for Sunday, the Avalanche Cup. Costs $42 to enter. Race is on Thunder Mountain so some hiking is involved. I’d use a backpack for the boots and water. Call Kirkwood at (209) 258-6000.
